Camaron Miyamoto is tenured faculty in the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success where he is the Director of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Queer+ (LGBTQ+) Center at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (2002-present). Dr. Miyamoto continues to learn from his students at UH and is fueled by the belief that we will create a better future through compassion, education, and a steadfast commitment to social justice. Dr. Miyamoto was a founding board member of the Hawai‘i LGBT Legacy Foundation where he helped establish the LGBT Center Waikiki and plan the Honolulu Pride Parade and Festival for several years. He also served as a board member of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), Honolulu Chapter, where he advocated for marriage equality in Hawai‘i.
In addition to serving on several city, county, state, and national appointments, Dr. Miyamoto has been published by the Princeton Review, Peter Lang Publishing, the University of Hawaiʻi Press and has materials reprinted by Duke University Press relating to queer people of color. His juried presentations include sessions/workshops at national conferences and institutes sponsored by: US Department of Justice/California Coalition Against Sex Assault, National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
Dr. Miyamoto received his B.A. in History from Occidental College (1992); M.A. in American Studies from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (1997); Ed.D. in Educational and Professional Practice from Antioch University (2024), and certificate in community organizing from the Center for Third World Organizing (1997).
